Learning Journal - Week III
Part I:
A study tip topic I listed as one that needs improvement in
my journal entry is to be more involved with organizations and clubs. The benefits
from this are I’ll be able to meet new people. Another study tip topic I will need
to improve on it to utilize the resources that the school provides, such as TA’s
assistance, Office hours, and the online library resources. Lasty, student
clubs and organizations are very important, they look great on the resume, and
they teach us how to collaborate as a team, and work together to achieve certain
goals.
Part II:
What I have learned this week regarding this week’s reading
is all the specific knowledge one must understand in computer science. Knowledge such as TCP IP Networking,
Databases, Algorithms and the math behind it such as discrete mathematics. Then
we have your different programming languages, and how each language can be used
for a different application, and many other different concepts. We also went
over “CS & MIST Online Master Program Syllabus”, which goes over important information
regarding enrolment, grades, resources, policies/rules and expectations.
This week’s material on ethics taught us that technology is
advancing at a rapid rate, but one must not forget about the important of “ethics”
and how we should respect others, even if we can leverage technology. An
example of this was regarding actors who have passed away, they were asking if
it was ethically moral to have AI assist in recreating them virtually. It went
into more details and different scenarios, but regardless, these are all
factors that 50 years ago; were non-existent, hence it is important to address
these conversations now, and have a full understanding of the importance of
ethics.
Part III:
This week’s readings entailed all the important factors that
make up a Computer Science Major, there is various disciplines such s
engineering, networking, Unix, algorithms, discrete mathematics, operating systems,
etc. Having a deep understanding of this will ensure that one has a full
understanding of all that computer science entails. I also got to learn the
specific regulations that cs online programs code of integrity, we also had a
team assignment, which taught me more detailed descriptions of the classes we
are going to take throughout the next 2 years, and how important they are for
our computer science degree.
Part IV:
After reading “code of integrity” , we grasp that integrity is
important for oneself and for our colleagues in the program because it ensures
that everyone is doing their part, by putting in the effort, researching, trying
to learn, one will actually learn and absorb the material, and carry it on for
the rest of their lives. On the opposite, if someone is not putting in effort, not
doing their own work, etc. then they ruin their learning experience, and run
the risk of consequences.
