Learning Journal - Week VI

Part 1: Help Your Teammates to Develop Capstone Ideas

During our team meeting we discussed the following ideas:

  • An app for kids to enjoy learning computer science.
  • A system that suggests good movies and shows
  • An AI game for kids to enjoy learning math and reading
  • vehicle maintenance logging mobile app
  • virtual gift card store
  • A smart irrigation system that takes factors such as the weather, humidity, existing moisture in the soil, etc. and provides enough water for the vegetation.

The ideas that stood out the most to me was the vehicle maintenance logging mobile app because our vehicles are important assets that assist us in traveling for work, enjoyment, emergencies. If one maintains their vehicle in top condition, the chances of it breaking down on oneself lessens.

Part 2: Keep Up With Your Learning Journal

This week I learned the basic fundamentals of Java thanks to the document that was shared via “Lecture: Preview CST 338 Software Design - with Java".  This was a good refresher and points out the similarities it has with C++ or PowerShell. I also learned how strong AI is in writing argumentative essays, it has the ability to query the question one is asking it, and search online databases and output that response in a summary. This is very helpful because it gives on the ability to understand perspectives that we wouldn't have been able to find via regular google searches or research.

These was also an extra credit assignment that taught me the value of obtaining a master or doctorates. Initially I assumed it was only to obtain a better paying job, but I came to find out that it will specialize you into a respective area of technology or research.

I also learned how to create a cover letter; in my past interviews I would only utilize a resume. By learning how to create a cover letter, I now understand the importance and how professional they enhance one’s portfolio.

Our team has started working on the final presentation projects by creating the blueprint of our PowerPoint (PPT), we laid out all the slides, which will have one topic each. We each divided up the task equally, hence we will do our research in our respective topic, and upload our findings onto our respective PowerPoint slide and attaching any references at the end of the PPT.
